The Fishing Season in New Zealand Southern Lakes Fishing Safaris operates from October - May. Spring: Sept-Nov Summer: Dec-Feb Autumn: Mar-May October - several rivers open and there is also good lake edge fishing. November - good for lake edge fishing. High country rivers flowing into lakes open and provide excellent nymph fishing. Temperatures are improving and dry fly fishing improves as the month progresses. December / January - the weather becomes more settled. Excellent for nymph and dry fly fishing. February / March - generally the most settled months of the summer. Rivers are generally low and clear providing excellent and challenging fishing. April / May - temperatures become cooler but generally settled weather. Excellent, challenging fishing for well conditioned Brown & Rainbow Trout. |
